One of Our Own Receives Jochebed Award

Karen Jochebed Award3Each year Right to Life of Idaho honors a local volunteer at the March for Life.  Jochebed was the mother of Moses.  You’ll recall how in the book of Exodus we are told that Pharaoh fearing the growth of the Hebrews ordered that all the young males be killed.  Jochebed hid her son Moses and thus saved his life.

The Jochebed Award represents current day pro-life heroes that exhibit this same bravery.  The 2016 Jochebed Award was presented to founding IDunited4Life member, Karen Simkins.

Karen tirelessly works behind the scenes in most life affirming events and organizations in the Treasure Valley.  Karen’s involvement began with a generous donation of a car which was raffled off.  Funds were used for several great works including bringing Jason Evert, chastity speaker to Boise.

Karen Jochebed AwardIf Karen is not leading a pro-life program, you can get she’s coaching from behind the scenes. She’s a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Community in Boise, Idaho and the Respect Life Ministry there.  Karen also works to link all Respect Life Ministries in Idaho through “Idaho Catholics Respect Life” together with another founding IDunited4Life member, Joni Krakau.

Karen Simkins has been instrumental in bringing 40 Days for Life to Boise and currently volunteers with Sidewalk Advocates for Life to train Sidewalk Counselors.

Idaho United 4 Life is proud to have Karen Simkins on our team and congratulate her accomplishments for life.

Q & A Regarding Life

Q:  What happened at all of the Planned Parenthoods in Idaho on Saturday, August 22?

A:  Over 600 people gathered to participate in the Nationwide “#ProtestPP“.

Q:  How can I make sure I know about this kind of event in the future?

A:  Make sure you subscribe to the IDunited4Life newsletter — because we’ll be letting you know when things are happening — so you can then forward this information to your own distribution lists — your church, your friends, your family. That’s what’s called “Community Outreach”.  And if you care about LIFE and ending abortion, that’s what it’s going to take.

Q:  What’s next on the horizon?

A:  “40 Days for Life” KICK-OFF RALLY and PRO-LIFE FAIR.

Q:  What will I have to do?  I’m not sure what I want to do, or if I can do anything.  How will I know?

A:  There are hundreds of ways to live out your pro-life beliefs!  Come check out this year’s Pro-Life Fair and see the MANY life affirming organizations and projects at work in Idaho!  This is so much more than a political issue — you might see how you can do something small and easy to change and save lives!

Q:  I’ve wondered about “40 Days for Life” but not sure standing out on the street is not my cup of tea?

A:  Well, if you’ve never tried it, you will be surprised — cuz you might just like it!  It’s prayerful, peaceful, law-abiding, non-political, and uplifting.  Anyone who doesn’t sign the pledge and adhere to those principles will not want to stay.  Look at how peaceful and uplifting the ProtestPP was.  Same thing.

Q.  What about talking to people out there on the street?  What if someone needs help and I don’t know what to tell them?  What if I wanted to go somewhere where I could actually do something else to help?

A.  Aha!  That’s what the Pro-Life Fair is all about.  “40 Days” is co-sponsoring this event in with the Pro-Life student club at Bishop Kelly, in conjunction with the Kick-Off Rally for the fall prayer campaign — just go give you all the information you need to consider that crucial question in your mind … “what COULD I do?”

Stanton Health Care in Boise Holds Press Conference

On July 31, 2015 Stanton Health Care, a crisis pregnancy center next door to Planned Parenthood in Boise, Idaho held a press conference.  Speaking at the event is Senator Russ Fulcher.

“Whether you’re a Republican or whether you’re a Democrat…pro-life or pro-choice, this is a non-partisan issue. This is a human rights issue.”

~ Idaho Senator, Russ Fulcher

Multiple elected officials, area Pastors and many other prolifers were in attendance to peacefully speak out for human rights. Senator Fulcher encouraged Ada County Prosecuter, Jan BennettsIdaho Attorney General, Lawrence Wasden; and the local police force to take action.

Idaho will not allow this to happen in our back yard!

U of I at the West Coast Walk for Life

The University of Idaho’s students for life team took 14 students to the West Coast walk for life and the SFLA conference in San Francisco. These are some of the memories of those students.

Bruno Loza-Senior

In the march for life I was given the opportunity to face the Pro-choicers. I and the other young pro-lifers were sent ahead of the march to prevent these pro-choicers from stopping the March. When arriving to where they were, I witnessed an anger and hatred that I had never before encountered. I was amazed by the way that my fellow pro-lifers responded; with love. When the march was about to begin, the pro-choicers became restless. We were told that they would attempt to block the street….Eventually they tried to move around to the left side where John and I were standing. They were able to sprint around us, but as their banner was being dragged I accidentally stepped on it. John then started pulling on it which was met with vicious kicking and cursing, John’s only response to the violence was, “You aren’t allowed to be here” and “God bless you”. Eventually the pro-choicers retreated. Although I wasn’t a major contributor, I’d like to think that the March for Life continued because of the actions of the pro-lifers that day.

Mathew Morrow-Freshman

It was a very energy filled time and I was honestly preparing myself for the worst. The pro-choicers had stopped the march in Oakland and in DC and we knew that we couldn’t let that happen. We were told that they would stop at nothing to get through and block the march. They tried to break through, but we stopped them with the help of SFPD. The march went off without a hitch and I heard later that the people in the walk said it was the quietest year ever, we had successfully blocked out the protesters even to the sight of those marching. It was a great experience.

Gabriela Portillo-Sophomore

Our group was sent ahead of the march to count the counter protesters. So we went to where they were gathered and brought tall wide boards to block them from stopping the march. At one point SFLA leaders split us up and took some of us to the end of the march to counter some more protesters there. At one point we were asked to move farther away from them to the other side of the street and that was when we stopped chanting “we are the pro-life generation” and kneeled down and started to pray the rosary.

Justin Leiner-Sophomore

We are the generation that will end abortion. The slogan was fairly new to me when I went to the March for Life, but after the experience I knew in my heart that it was really a true statement. Nearly 60,000 people came to the march for life. Witnessing the sheer number of people stand for life and the zeal of the speakers at the SFLA conference left me with no doubt that his generation will inflect change and end the widespread horror of abortion.

The 40 Film is Coming to Boise

Thanks to the tireless efforts and endless generosity of Dustie Mulvaney The “40” Film is coming to Boise!

40 is a wake up call for America that investigates the aftermath of legalized abortion over the last 40 years. (Now 42 years)

40, one of the most compelling pro-life documentaries ever produced.

40 gives voice to both sides fairly and lets women speak for themselves through experience on the reasons for their firm convictions about abortion. The film also addresses Continue reading “The 40 Film is Coming to Boise”
